Locknut: The locknut is a piece of plastic nylon that is part of the aluminum hand piece. Its purpose is to hold the optical fiber in place and prevent it from sliding in and out. The locknut is located at the rear of the aluminum handle and stays inside the back treated cap. This nylon piece is autoclavable and there’s no need to remove it from the hand piece when cleaning or sterilizing.
